Thank you to those who expressed interest in running for a Visalia Democratic Club 2024 board position. Here is your 2024 Board elected at our Annual Meeting on January 24, 2024:

Joshua A. Evans

Joshua Was born in Walnut Creek, California. His family moved to Visalia in 1991 where he was raised from the age of one. Joshua attended Visalia Unified Schools and was part of the third Graduating Class of El Diamante High School in 2008. Joshua received his BA in History form California Sate University, Fresno in 2012 and received his Teaching Credential in 2014. He began teaching in VUSD in 2014. Since teaching he has become involved with the Visalia Unified Teachers Association, as a Division Director in 2022, where he was also elected to represent VUTA at the 2023 NEA Representative Assembly.  Joshua is an elected delegate to the California Democratic Party representing Tulare County.

In March of 2024 Joshua was elected as the Chair of the Tulare County Democratic Central Committee.

​Randy Evans

Randy is a native of Columbus, OH and lived in the Chicago, IL area for 13 years before moving to the San Francisco Bay Area.  He married in 1984 and relocated to Visalia in 1991.  Randy has been active in his community and politics from an early age, volunteering for campaigns for Michael Dukakis, Andrew Janz and Phil Arballo and served for 10 years on the Visalia Citizens Advisory Committee to the City of Visalia.  Randy ran for Visalia Unified School Board in 2020 and joined the Visalia Democratic Club in 2021.  Randy is also a member of Tulare County Central Committee and is an elected delegate to the California Democratic Party representing Tulare County.  He is currently serving on the Measure A Bond Oversight committee for Visalia Unified School District.  Randy has been married for nearly 40 years and has a son who is a high school social science teacher.  He is an avid gardener and enjoys all types of music and looks forward to his retirement from his  40+ year career in the Risk Management/Insurance industry.

In March of 2024, Randy was elected as Treasurer of the Tulare County Democratic Central Committee. He was also elected as a Delegate to the Democratic National Committee and a Delegate to the 2024 Democratic National Convention.

​Colijia is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Educator and Activist who has worked to provide safety to abused children and victims of human trafficking. She has also worked as a school social worker providing therapy to traumatized students and those struggling with mental wellness.

In March of 2024 Colijia was elected as the Secretary of the Tulare County Democratic Central Committee.

Dr. Lucia Vazquez

Dr. Lucia D. Vázquez, she/her/ella, grew up in a traditional Mexican family of 11 in Goshen. The family grew up in the farmworker movement. Her father was one of the first farm workers recruited by Cesar Chavez, Dolores Huerta and Jim Drake. Lucia being one of the younger children spent her summers leafleting grocery store parking lots, while some older siblings were deployed to Michigan and New York Boycotts.  Participation in the labor movement gave Lucia her strong sense of responsibility to community and her record of civic participation. Her active participation in school site council and PTA at the site and district level gave her an understanding of the inequities of school resources, and teacher bias.  In 2011, a product of by-district election, she became the first Latina elected to the Visalia Unified School Board, where she served for nine years. 
Dr Vázquez’s Master’s thesis focused on Young Adult Latina Literature and her doctoral dissertation focused on Educational Resilience in Youth Mariachi. She found that Mariachi youth programs with a positive team culture created an environment that fostered strong social emotional and other transferable marketable skills, increased family bonds and created community cultural wealth.
 In 2021, as an agent of Lali Moheno & Associates, Dr. Vázquez contributed greatly to the outreach and input of community members to the Tulare County redistricting process.  During a peak in the pandemic. with the great need for substitutes in all schools, Dr Vázquez reinstated her substitute teacher certification and spent a good part of 2021 in classrooms. Currently Dr Vázquez is working as part of the outreach team for the Agricultural Labor Relations Board.
Dr Vázquez has been a committed Domocrat since she first voted at the age of 18. Dr Vázquez is an elected delegate to the California Democratic Party representing Tulare County. She is a Dedicated member of the Tulare County Democratic Central Committee, and Currently Serves as a Vice Chair for the California Democratic Chicano Latino Caucus representing the Central Valley.
